This page explains how current BigTape's market data is, what it covers, and how Late Reports, corrections and cancellations change what you see. BigTape shows generated sample data today, so these rules describe how real market data is handled once BigTape is licensed to show it.
When a screen shows Delayed 15 min, every price, trade, level and alert on it reaches you 15 minutes after the data was published to BigTape. The delay is counted from publication, not from the time printed on a trade. Beside the label, a line such as “Data as of 10:42:07 ET” gives the time of the data you are seeing.
The delay applies everywhere market data appears. That includes the chart, prints and their ranks, Market Top 10, Dark Levels, Revisits and Level Breaks, favorites, the ETF overview, the Since you last looked card, alerts, rating previews during the day and Gamma Levels.
Free and Big are delayed 15 minutes. Real-time display requires a license that BigTape does not hold yet. Until it does, market data is delayed on every plan and Bigger, the plan without the delay, is not offered. BigTape shows Live only when data is real-time and arriving normally, and never beside delayed data.
Every print keeps its own trade time. With a 15-minute delay, a trade published at 10:27:04 a.m. appears at 10:42:04 a.m. and still shows 10:27:04. Some trades are reported late, minutes after they happened; such a trade appears 15 minutes after its report was published, so it can show a trade time more than 15 minutes old. A correction or cancellation also appears 15 minutes after it was published. Alerts say both times, for example “Happened 10:42:07 ET · delivered 10:57:07 ET (data delayed 15 min)”.
If updates stop during a session, the screen shows Stale with the time of the last update. Alerts sent after an interruption say so, for example “Sent late: our data was interrupted from 10:40 to 10:52 a.m. ET.” When the market is closed, a session line such as “Market closed · Data as of 16:00:00 ET” appears in place of a state.
Coverage. BigTape covers U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs. The app shows how many tickers it covers beside the data state. BigTape does not claim to include every trade.
History start. Trade history starts in January 2016, or on a ticker's first covered day if later. Each ticker shows its own start, for example “history starts Mar 2021”. Ranks such as #1 Print and Top 10 compare a print only with trades inside that history.
Known gaps. History can have gaps, such as a session or a ticker with incomplete data. Where history is incomplete, the app says so. Ranks show “Rank unavailable”, and the data state shows “History still loading” or “Not covered”. BigTape never fills a gap with estimated trades.
Excluded trade types. Some reported trade types are left out of ranks under the method in use. They stay on the chart, drawn faded and labeled Excluded. The Methodology page lists them before real market data is shown.
Canceled trades. A reported trade can later be canceled. BigTape keeps a Canceled print on the chart, crossed out, and removes it from ranks.
Corrected trades. A reported trade can be corrected, for example to fix its price or size. BigTape updates the print and its rank.
Late Reports. A Late Report is a trade published late and out of order. BigTape marks it Late Report. Its time may differ from when the trade happened.
How ranks change. Ranks are computed as of a moment. They change when a bigger trade prints later, when a trade is canceled or corrected, and when a Late Report arrives. A print's details show both ranks, for example “Was #7 when printed · #8 now”. In replay, ranks appear as they stood at the replay clock.
Alerts. If a trade behind an alert is canceled or corrected, BigTape updates or withdraws the alert and says so.
